The LORD will raise up an army so fierce and destructive that when it passes through this land that is as lush and bountiful as Eden, nothing will remain. The efficiency of this war machine of an army is terrifying. It is a massive force, a methodical and overwhelming juggernaut, scaling walls and entering people’s homes. God’s people falsely assume that because God called them by name, He would not dare punish them. Because He is holy and just, and because He loves His children, He will punish their sins.
Simply put, God loves us too much to leave us in our sin. Just as loving parents discipline their children not because they enjoy punishing them but because that is what good parents must do to raise up children with godly character, God disciplines us for our sake. His punishment may seem severe, but without it, His people would never learn their lesson.
